Kotobukiya is going to release the Hakurei Reimu ( 博麗霊夢 ) Nemu Matsukura Ver. ( 松倉ねむver. ) from the doujin danmaku shooting game series “Touhou Project” ( 東方プロジェクト ) by the circle Team Shanghai Alice ( 上海アリス幻樂団 ). Will be released in May 2011. Around 200mm tall, 6,800 yen.
Just like the Kirisame Marisa Nemu Matsukura Ver., this Hakurei Reimu Nemu Matsukura Ver. was one of the awarded GK of Wonder Showcase in 2008 (WSC#044). Both of the Reimu and Marisa were made by “Yokoshima Shinpei” ( 横嶋真平 ) from “Gouhondou” ( 剛本堂 ). But these are the only two Touhou GK that he made. There are no word for the next Touhou figure from Kotobukiya. So I wonder if Kotobukiya will continue to work on another Touhou figure by another sculptor or they will just stop here. =/

Finally a nice looking Touhou girl. Sorry folks, I just don’t like the low quality griffon offerings. But I know that even with this one, the final product will not match the promo pics. Sad. If I’m wrong in my estimation of Kotobukiya please let me know! 🙂
I myself Have a Griffin Touhou figure and I feel the quality is excellent. No flaws in the paint job and nice shading. They maybe could have done more dynamic poses, but overall good figures. I think the more they make the better they get.
About Kotobukiya, I also have on of their figures and feel that they are of good quality as well..a couple flaws in paint, but overall good figure. Nice poses as well on the kotobukiya figs.
HOPE it HELPS!
I have five Griffon Touhous and the Kotobukiya Yukari. All of them have turned out great. If I had a complaint it might be that the Griffon Eirin’s paintjob is very different from the promo pics. Her hair is much closer to a flat blue than the white in the original pics. Still, she’s a very nice figurine.
As for this Reimu… Well, I love the pose, but I have to confess. I just don’t like brown-haired Reimu at all! She has black hair in the games and I think it’s a much more attractive color to go with red and white. But almost every fig of Reimu has her with brown hair, so I still don’t have a Reimu yet. 🙁
Thanks for your feedback everybody. I agree with you all that the quality and aesthetics of the figures made by griffon and kotobukiya are good. It’s the paint application, as Caitlin points out, that I find fault with. The final product should match the promo pics, since it is based on that that most of us make our purchase selections. There are a lot of heart breaker figures out there that fall in this category, as least for me. I’m glad that others enjoy their griffon and kotobukiya figures, since most of this just comes down to personal taste, and if you’ve found something that catches your eye and makes you happy then that is all that matters 🙂
A silver lining to this is that my wallet does not groan as much as other’s when I do finally commit to buying a figure 😉
I have not seen the Griffon figures other then in pictures but I think Koto makes a quality product these days, I have been very happy with their recent figures.
