Banpresto is going to release the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kei Deformation Maniac Figure Collection – Pocket Vol.3 ( ひぐらしのなく頃に解 でふぉるまにあこれくしょん・ぽけっとvol.3) prize figure from the visual novel/anime series “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni” ( ひぐらしのなく頃に解 ). Will be released in the second week of April 2010. Around 50mm tall, 650 yen each.

These is the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kei set that we saw in the 18th Prize Fair last week. I really want the Rena and Satoko! They are so cute!! =D

For those who aren’t not familiar with prize figure, they’re the prize items that can be found in the prize machines (AKA crane game or UFO catcher). There are many different kind of prize items can be found in those machines. I had seen lobster and rabbit in the machines before…. (-_____-.; . But usually the prizes are anime character related toys like figure, keychain, plush, and accessories.

Different kinds of UFO Catcher by SEGA

To play game is cheap, usually costs 100 yen for each “catch”. If you’re not good at the game, you can always buy the prize items in store instead. The prize of buying prize items may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Usually a regular size figure (around 1/8 scale) or a plush (around 210mm tall) costs around 1,500 yen. A small petit size figure or a small plush costs around 600-700 yen. The quality of the size petit size figures are usually really good, but the regular size figures is another story.

You’re very lucky if you live in Japan. But if not, then you need to per-order the prize figures that you want. When you pre-order prize figure, you really need to be careful. Most of the time you don’t know what you are pre-ordering espeically the prize figures by SEGA. Sometime they will have an illustration of the item for you to have an idea how it looks like, but most of the time they will only publish the item name and that’s it.

Don’t be fooled by the illustration!!!

Therefore I will pre-order ALL the prize figures for the characters that I like. Then I’ll wait for the final product images to come out, usually around a week before the actually items being on sale. Once I know how the actually product looks like, I’ll cancel all the items that looks like crap and keep those nice ones. In this process, I usually cancel around 80% of the figures that I pre-ordered. Now I hope you have a general idea how bad the quality of prize figure is. =P
